The Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE), a partner organization of the International Astronomical Union (IAU)‘s Office of Astronomy for Development, won the 2020 UN Climate Action Award and is being recognized at COP 26 as part of the UN Climate Action Awards on 9 November.

The Global Himalayan Expedition has been instrumental in solar powering 156 villages in the Himalayas. With OAD’s support, the expedition has been setting up community based tourism initiatives in remote Himalayan villages.
