UNDRR-UNDP Webinar: Resilient Recovery of Graduating Countries in Asia-Pacific – A Multi-Dimensional Risk-Lens

Webinar invitation: Resilient Recovery of Graduating Countries in Asia-Pacific: A Multi-Dimensional Risk-Lens

Countries that are graduating from the least developed category often face the same climate and disaster risks they faced before graduation, while losing access to some financing instruments. Moreover, what often propels them through graduation is a strong push for rapid economic growth. Considering that development that is not informed by disaster risks could inadvertently create new risks, graduating countries stand to lose their development gains due to disasters.

The LDC graduation process and COVID-19 recovery offer countries a window of opportunity to integrate disaster risk reduction into economic and development plans, to ensure economic growth and development are resilient and sustainable beyond graduation.

This session will explain how countries can achieve this and will outline the insights of such graduating countries, together with experts on the topic.

This webinar is being organized as an open side event at the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2021 (APFSD).
